Berwyn’s 8th Annual Pride Walk Celebrates Community

BERWYN, IL – May 1, 2026 – The Berwyn Development Corporation, City of Berwyn, and Bunaglo+ are proud to announce the 8th Annual Berwyn Pride Walk, a vibrant celebration of community, inclusivity, and LGBTQ+ pride. This year’s walk will take place in Berwyn’s historic Depot District along Windsor Avenue, beginning at Harlem Avenue and continuing east to East Avenue. It brings residents, families, and allies together in support of equality and belonging, reflecting Berwyn’s ongoing commitment to support  while upholding its reputation as one of the Chicago area’s most culturally diverse and welcoming communities.

“Berwyn is a city built on connection between neighbors, businesses, and cultures,” said Mayor Robert J. Lovero. “The Pride Walk is a celebration of that spirit, and a reminder that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued here.”

This event is proudly supported by local businesses and community leaders, including aldermen for the 1st, 2nd, and 7th Wards, Berwyn Public Library, and Depot District bars and restaurants. This event is further supported by Bungalo+, Berwyn’s oldest LGBTQ+ community organization. The organization has recently focused its efforts on community engagement and combatting social isolation within the LGBTQ+ community – an initiative the Pride Walk supports.

While Berwyn continues to build its own traditions of inclusion, it is part of a broader regional legacy of LGBTQ+ advocacy. Illinois has long been a leader in LGBTQ+ rights, becoming the first state in the nation to decriminalize same-sex relationships in 1962 and later establishing strong protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Chicago area, just minutes from Berwyn, has played a central role in advancing LGBTQ+ visibility and rights, including hosting one of the nation’s earliest Pride parades in 1970.

Today, Berwyn continues that legacy at the local level by fostering a culture that embraces diversity and supports LGBTQ+ residents, businesses, and visitors.

Participants in the Pride Walk can expect a lively, family-friendly atmosphere featuring community organizations, local leaders, and residents coming together in reflection and celebration. The event is open to all and encourages participants to bring their pride, dress festively, and embrace the community spirit.
