Position Summary:

The Chamber Manager serves as the primary lead for membership engagement, business outreach, relationship management, networking initiatives, sponsorship development, and chamber programming for the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC).

This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with chamber members, local businesses, community organizations, sponsors, and strategic partners while helping strengthen the overall business climate and connectivity throughout Berwyn. The Chamber Manager will play a key role in supporting business retention, membership growth, sponsorship development, networking opportunities, and community engagement initiatives that contribute to the vibrancy and economic success of Berwyn’s business community.

The Chamber Manager will lead collaborative efforts designed to increase chamber membership engagement, strengthen member value, expand sponsorship opportunities, support business visibility, and enhance participation in chamber events, programs, and initiatives.

This role requires a highly motivated, relationship-oriented, sales-minded, and execution-focused professional capable of building strong partnerships, engaging businesses throughout the community, coordinating events and initiatives, and serving as a visible and positive ambassador for the BDC and Berwyn business community.

The Chamber Manager will work collaboratively across BDC departments to align business outreach efforts, event programming, sponsorship coordination, marketing initiatives, and organizational priorities while helping position Berwyn as a welcoming, connected, and business-friendly community.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides direction and supervision to Chamber Coordinator.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for Chamber Coordinator.

Supervision Received:

  • Reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Membership Growth & Business Engagement

  • Serve as a primary relationship manager and point of contact for chamber members, local businesses, sponsors, community organizations, and business stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing chamber members while actively recruiting new businesses and organizations to join the chamber.
  • Lead efforts focused on membership retention, engagement, communication, and overall member satisfaction.
  • Conduct business outreach efforts throughout the community to strengthen relationships, identify business needs, and connect businesses with BDC programs, resources, and opportunities.
  • Support local businesses through networking opportunities, business engagement initiatives, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, and community relationship-building activities.
  • Maintain a strong presence within the business community and serve as a visible ambassador for the BDC and chamber division.
  • Assist businesses in maximizing chamber membership benefits, promotional opportunities, sponsorship participation, and community engagement.
  • Build positive working relationships with business owners, entrepreneurs, community leaders, property owners, local agencies, and strategic partners throughout Berwyn.
  • Maintain accurate membership records, databases, engagement tracking, and organizational documentation related to chamber operations and programming.

Sponsorship Development & Revenue Growth

  • Lead efforts to secure sponsorships and partnership opportunities supporting chamber events, networking programs, publications, and business initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, strategic partners, and local businesses.
  • Identify opportunities to grow chamber revenue through sponsorships, partnerships, advertising opportunities, membership engagement, and business participation initiatives.
  • Coordinate sponsor communication, fulfillment, recognition, and activation opportunities associated with chamber programming and events.
  • Assist in the creation of sponsorship materials, outreach strategies, partnership presentations, and promotional opportunities.
  • Support sales and advertising efforts associated with chamber publications, community guides, business directories, and promotional initiatives.

Events, Networking & Community Engagement

  • Coordinate networking events, business engagement programs, ribbon cuttings, educational workshops, community initiatives, and chamber-related events designed to strengthen business relationships and increase community participation.
  • Assist in planning and execution of major BDC and chamber events including networking functions, business appreciation events, community festivals, business workshops, and promotional activities.
  • Work collaboratively with BDC staff to align event calendars, outreach efforts, sponsorship opportunities, and organizational initiatives.
  • Coordinate communication and logistics with businesses, sponsors, vendors, speakers, community organizations, and event participants.
  • Support efforts designed to increase attendance, business participation, sponsorship engagement, and overall visibility of chamber initiatives.
  • Represent the BDC and chamber division at business functions, networking activities, community meetings, and public events.
  • Assist in identifying innovative programming ideas and engagement opportunities that strengthen chamber participation and business connectivity throughout Berwyn.

Marketing, Communications & Member Promotion

  • Coordinate with the BDC marketing team to support promotion of chamber initiatives, member businesses, networking events, sponsorship opportunities, and community programs.
  • Assist with development of newsletters, social media content, promotional materials, business spotlights, email communications, and storytelling initiatives highlighting chamber members and local businesses.
  • Support efforts to position Berwyn as a vibrant, welcoming, and business-friendly community.
  • Gather and coordinate updated business information, promotional materials, event details, and community announcements from chamber members and partners.
  • Assist with digital communication efforts including website updates, social media coordination, event promotion, and member outreach.
  • Support promotional initiatives designed to increase chamber visibility, membership engagement, and community awareness throughout Berwyn and the greater Chicagoland region.

Collaboration, Coordination & Organizational Support

  • Work collaboratively across BDC departments to support aligned communication, coordinated programming, sponsorship development, business outreach, and organizational priorities.
  • Assist in maintaining organized calendars, timelines, membership systems, operational procedures, and communication processes related to chamber programming and initiatives.
  • Coordinate projects and initiatives efficiently from planning through execution while maintaining responsiveness, professionalism, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Collect and maintain membership, sponsorship, participation, and engagement data to support organizational reporting and evaluation efforts.
  • Assist with operational support for BDC events, community activations, and organizational initiatives as needed.
  • Build collaborative relationships with businesses, entrepreneurs, sponsors, vendors, community organizations, and stakeholders throughout the community.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong sales, networking, relationship-building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, engage, and retain businesses, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Highly motivated, outgoing, customer-service oriented, and comfortable working in public-facing and networking environments.
  • Strong understanding of business engagement, membership growth strategies, sponsorship development, and community relationship management.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Berwyn business community, commercial corridors, and local business environment is strongly preferred.
  • Prefer bilingual Spanish speaking and writing proficiency is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, relationships, and events simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with social media, digital communication platforms, event promotion, and community outreach preferred.
  • Passion for economic development, community engagement, relationship building, and supporting local businesses.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Berwyn business community and the Greater Chicagoland area strongly preferred.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required in business, marketing, communications, economic development, public relations, or related field.

A minimum of 2–4 years of experience in chamber operations, business development, membership engagement, sales, sponsorship development, community outreach, event coordination, or related fields preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Environment

This is an office-based position that will require on-site availability 5 days a week from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Some travel may be required.
